Illustration for Motion - School of Motion

In januari 2025 I started the course Illustration for Motion course from School of Motion, taught by illustrator and animation director Sarah Beth Morgan. Below you will find a selection of illustrations I made during this twelve week course.

In Illustration for Motion you'll learn the foundations of modern illustration from Sarah Beth Morgan. You’ll discover a range of illustrative styles through mock client briefs meant to mimic jobs found in the real world. By the end of the course, you'll be equipped to create incredible illustrated works of art that you can use in your animation projects right away.

ABOUT THE GAME

We're a game company in the beginning stages of bringing a new multiplayer mobile puzzle game to life: Globe Trotter: Dawn of a New Millennium. We saw your work and thought you'd be a great candidate to help us create

Brief:

We love your graphic style and are especially interested in developing this game in an isometric perspective. Eachpuzzle level of the game will involve a simplified, geometric version of a city. Potential cities for you to illustrate are: Moscow, Russia; Kyoto, Japan; Istanbul, Turkey; Venice, Italy; or Las Vegas, NV, USA. It should involve some recognizable landmarks, so the building shapes & sizes shouldn't be overly stylized. But, it should be infused with some futuristic elements - perhaps that involves holograms or flying vehicles.

Your illustration should be square at 1500 x 1500 pixels.

It should be in 300dpi resolution for optimal viewing.

ABOUT CANDYCART

CandyCart is the best new thing - that’s what it is! Imagine GrubHub.. but filled with all of the delicious movie-sized candies and fresh, oozy, cheeeeesy nachos that you could ever want. Our app is (finally!) launching in a month, and we want to build the hype with a :20-:30 pre-roll ad. And we need you to help us make it!

Brief:

Our brand is playful, fun and light-hearted. We still want to present as professional, maintaining our customer’s trust, so we think that sticking to a clean style will suit this video best. We are new to the animation and illustration industry and are trusting you to make something that fits in nicely with our current brand and logo.

ABOUT GRANDMA’S KITCHEN

Like your grandma’s desserts. This summer, Grandma’s Kitchen is releasing five new flavors of our award-winning protein shake. We could think of no better way to release the news than through a 15 second animation. Our goal is to express the sense of extreme satisfaction to our viewers - that feeling you get when you just had the best meal of your life.

Brief:

Surprise! We don’t have a script! Since we want to create a feeling with this commercial, we thought we’d go about it in a nontraditional way. We’re hoping that you’ll be able to use the information we’ve given you here to craft a world that screams “SATISFYING!” So let’s use 2-3 of our new summer flavors to create this magical world and pull it all together with clever transitions. Our brand is colorful, adventurous, organic, and homemade. We’re obviously not afraid of fun, wild flavors, so that should tell you something about us!

ABOUT TASTY TIDBITS

Tasty Tidbits is a food blog dedicated to sharing simple, healthy recipes for busy people. We are trying to reach a wider audience through social media and have selected a few illustrators to create Instagram posts for us. We want to attract a creative community.

Brief:

For this project, we’re looking to highlight the four main ingredients from various recipes on our social media. We’d love to showcase these ingredients individually and as an arrangement through an Instagram carousel post. Feel free to pick a recipe of yoir choice and have fun! We love your style and can’t wait to see what you make.

We want the style to feel fun, quirky and natural/handmade. It should be colorful to catch the user’s attention.

ABOUT THE NEW AGENCY

We are The New Agency - and we want to collaborate with your team on a pitch! This pitch is for an upcoming ad campaign for a new boutique coffee and donut shop called Normal Coffee.

Brief:

We’re looking for 3 styleframes that feature a malecharacter grabbing a pipin’ hot cup of coffee and a delicious donut. Due to the timeline and budget, this character should be simple with no facial expressions. It’s more about the product than the person, but we still want to include that human interaction.

ReBrief:

Thank you so much for providing us with the wonderful frames last week! We regrouped with our team and are loving the style but need to request a few changes.

1. We want to stay true to our mission to represent the diversity of our customer base. Could we change the character to an African American female?

2. We’ve found room in the budget for a character animator and are looking to express more emotion and life in the protagonist. This could be added through the character posing or her facial expression.

3. Let’s add an extra frame before the lockup, highlighting our protagonist doing something active with their newfound energy.

ABOUT FAR OUT GAMES

The 60th Annivesary of our original playing card set is happening this year! A new Limited Edition Retro version of the set is currently in production and scheduled to be in stores soon. We’d love to work with you to create an animated advertisement to spread the word.

The spot should have a truly nostalgic 60s feel and should really capture the time of our original playing card set - with a modern twist. We want today’s avid card players to be pulled in and excited to buy this new set.

Brief:

Could you make us some stylized frames to correspond with the lines of the script? We’re open to style and color, etc, as long as that time-machine feel really shines through. We love your work and truly believe you’ll be able to do something great with it!
